Big Sur - McWay Falls

After leaving Carmel, we headed south down Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) and took in all of the beautiful views. What a gorgeous drive.  You think you've seen the most beautiful scenery of the drive, then you go around a corner and the next view is even more beautiful than the last.  The only downfall is that it is a windy road.  While it could be much worse, it definitely encourages you to take breaks at the look-out points and stretch your legs a bit.

Happy cows come from California right?  I'd sure say so - these cows have the best view in the world.
We stopped at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park within Big Sur so we could see the McWay Falls.  After doing research online to see what the best things to see in the area were, this was definitely a must-see according to hundreds of visitors. Although, one commenter online noted with disappointment that it was more of a trickle than a waterfall which made me a laugh a little.  True, it's no Niagara, but I think its small simplicity is what makes it so lovely.  Freshwater falling out of the mountains into bright blue ocean is pretty hard to beat.
The beautiful McWay Falls.  We caught it just in time before the sun set.

Clearly, I was smitten and took lots of pictures.  It was just so amazingly picturesque and lovely.
The water was unbelievably bright blue.  No retouching at all, it really was this pretty, if not more-so.

There were even seals playing in the water - so cute!

Interesting history about the area.

We didn't have time to go for a hike in the surrounding forests, but as you can tell they're very lush and green.  That's also on the list for my next visit.

We continued on our drive down Route 1 and took a break at sunset to watch the sun set over the ocean.

McWay Falls were beautiful, can't wait till my next visit!
